Voices 4 Him

I posted a picture of three ladies and me asking for help to name us awhile back. Thanks to all who made suggestions especially Angelo. The name that we ended up chosing though was Voices 4 Him from Crystal. There are a total of four Filipina girls including me. Our first debut will be at the SDA church on Quartermaster Road this Saturday at 11 am. So if you are awake and you are not picking up trash at Wing Beach with Beautify CNMI . . . stop by!

I'm still getting over my cold so my voice was cracking during our practices. I've been drinking alot of tea and sleeping early. Such a champion I know. Peterson will be accompanying us on his Guitar. He's awesome! He was jammin' on his guitar and singing melodies. I could listen to him all day. I'm alittle nervous so lets hope we do okay. I think its such a great song to sing and share- What A Faithful God. More on my thoughts about Faith later.

Beautify CNMI's First Anniversary

I admit it! I look for any excuse or opportunity to get dressed up on this island. I wear scrubs five days a week and I am usually in a t-shirt and jeans during the week so it was nice to get dressed up. Missy and I went to Beautify CNMI's anniversary fundraiser dinner at Aqua resort last night and had a blast. All you can eat seafood buffet, yummy dessert, and great company . . . what more can you ask for?

Its kind of funny how I found out about Beautify CNMI. I was new to the island and just started blogging. I came across Angelo's page and noticed some really great pictures of the recyclable christmas tree ornaments. I had seen those Christmas tree ornaments in Garapan but forgot to take pictures.
Anyways, I saw them on Angelo's page and "borrowed" them for my blog to show my friends and family back home. A day later I get a message from Angelo saying how those pics look "familiar"! I was so embaressed! But before that incident I use to read up on Beautify CNMI on his webpage and became interested in ways to be involved in the community.

To make a long story short, I attended a Beautify CNMI Micronesia Challenge meeting in November. It was then when I first met Angelo, Cinta, Bree, MIke Tripp . . . Just like Cinta said during her speech last night, we have made so many good friends through Beautify CNMI.

During the slide show they showed alot of groups that participated during the first year. When the SDA Church picture was displayed up on the screen Missy and I screamed! Really loud! Louder than I thought! Gotta represent you know!?

It was good to see some of my online blogger friends there last night. Steve and his wife, Miwa were so cute. Also Walt and Captain Carl were there too. It is amazing to know that there are over 50 local bloggers in Saipan. Before I came out to Saipan I would try and google stuff on Saipan. There was very few information out there. I think that if I would have seen the We Love Saipan website before I came out here it would have answered alot of my questions about life on Saipan.

Anywho, we had great night=)

Easter Sunday Clean Up

Beautify CNMI's partner, The Friends Of The Mariana Islands (FMI), led the cleanup on Sunday morning of Isa Drive between the Botanical Garden in Papago and Northern Marianas College in Fina Sisu. Here are some pictures!

Missy and I woke up really early to join the clean up Sunday morning. It was really warm this morning and it was a long walk! Its okay though because all the honking from drivers who supported FMI and the ocean view made my day.

I have joined the group FMI because I really believe that if you are a part of a group that shares the same passion and same goals, your commitment to serve will be more consistent and stronger. I hope that everyone in the CNMI will consider joining The Friends of the Mariana Islands (FMI) group. We always have a good time together and alot of laughs!

I have realized that Its really not just about the clean ups. Its about building new friendships and making a difference together here in Saipan. I consider myself lucky because I have made some really good friends by joining this group.

Thank you to everyone who came out and Happy Easter!

Participants included: FMI, Rep. Cinta Kaipat, Gus Kaipat, The Kaipat Clan, MINA, SDA Church

Public Service Announcement

I'm trying to catch up on posting. I have joined a campaign called Beautify CNMI. Its a group of good-hearted people keeping Saipan clean and beautiful. I try to volunteer every Sunday morning. I have met some really wonderful people through this group. I even made it into their little commercial that is on the local station. My a$$et made it into the commercial. I'm picking up trash, can you recognize my behind??!

I have also agreed to be the PRO (public relations officer) for a Beautify CNMI's group called Friends of the Mariana Islands. You can read more about the group here. Hope you can understand Tagalog!

Women's Ministry sorting out clothes for Philippine Typhoon victims.

I can't explain how amazing it feels to be part of a church family that is active and willing to give up a couple of hours of their Sunday to volunteer. I really feel blessed with the church's support and enthusiasm to work together with the rest of the community to help better Saipan. The Women's Ministry led out in two events this weekend. We had a clothing drive for the typhoon victims for the Philippines. The clothes were sorted out this weekend and will be shipped this month. On Sunday, the SDA Church, School, and Dental Clinic joined Beautify CNMI for a roadside cleanup of the Garapan Tourist District. Over 30 of us helped out! We plan to help out the first Sunday of every month.

Britni was picking up cigarette buds along the gutter and didn't realize some idiot had just tossed a fresh burning one out his car window . . . she picked it up and it burned her glove=( But don't worry, she's okay. Humm, disgusting finds today: a dead rat. It was a beautiful sunny day and some of the jams I was listening on my nano ipod while picking up trash: Stir it up (Bob Marley), In a little while (U2), Dynamite (Jamiroquai) . . . Thank you everyone for showing up! You know I love you, right?! =)

Give a Hoot! Don't Pollute!

Betty, our youngest BC team member=) So cute!

Ok, this is my last post of the night and I'm going to bed. This morning I was suppose to go running with some friends at seven but I ended up waking up late=( Anyways, I decided to be productive and helped with a roadside cleanup with Beautify CNMI. I blogged earlier that Women's Ministry will lead out the SDA Church on monthly beach and roadside cleanups with Team BC. Anywho, today we cleaned up the intersection of Aiport Road and Tun Kioshi Road. Disgusting finds today-three poopy diapers. Great job Team BC.

Beautify CNMI: Light house Cleanup

Team BC

Angelo, Me, Missy, and Grant

The view ontop the lighthouse=)

I had a great day today. This morning Grant, Missy, and me headed out to the old light house that sits on top of Navy Hill to help Beautify CNMI with cleanup. We love the light house and have been there a couple of times to just hang out and enjoy the view from atop. The light house had overgrown trees, trash, grafitti, and debris laying around. So we were excited to hear that Beautify CNMI was cleaning up the place and restoring the historical site.

We got there around 10 in the morning and just helped out with sweeping the inside of the light house, picking up trash, and pulling weeds. It was a good turn out. We also were able to meet a legistator, Rep. Waki. We were just talking about how we wanted our church to be more active with community projects. He was very appreciative and said the best way to share our message was being involved with the community in this very way. I think Rep. Waki said it best "be proactive not reactive." So I am excited that Women's Ministry will lead out in helping Beautify CNMI with various projects.

Later in the evening, Grant and I headed out to Micro beach for a swim before sunset. We attempted to swim out to the ship wreckage and got about 3/4 of the way but had to turn back because it was getting dark. Before we headed back, we took a break about half way in the water and just watched the sunset. How lucky are we to be out here in such a beautiful place.
