SDA Youth Valentine's Day Party

I asked Judith and Mai to share a devotional for the youth at our Valentine's Day Party. Mai started off with a touching story about a father's love. He worked for a train station operating a bridge that would let the train pass through.

One day his son was with him at work. While working in the booth the father got a call that a train full of passengers was coming through. He had to put the bridge down. He looked frantically for his son and realized he was playing near the bridge. There wasn't enough time to go down and tell his son to move. He knew he had to make a decision. To make sure his son was safe by not putting down the bridge or to allow a train full of people go over the edge.

The father couldn't bare to let a train full of people go over the edge so he made the agonizing decision to put down the bridge and hope that his son would get out of the way. Sadly the story ends with the son dying but the train full of passengers safely made its way through the bridge.

Valentine's day is overshadowed by candy, flowers, and other gifts. Sometimes we forget what the meaning of true love is. God sacrificing his son's life so that we may have the chance to live eternally with Him.

We closed out the Sabbath with this devotional and to Riki jammin' on her guitar while we sang praises.
Amy helped me prepare Haystacks for dinner and for dessert we had chocolate fondue with bananas, apples, oranges, and broccoli! Yum!

Yesterday

So yesterday was Valentine's Day and instead of staying home . . . I decided to make it a girl’s night out with my friend, Jidda. I mentioned in my previous blog that I like to dress up and yesterday was the perfect excuse. Some friends thought it was strange for ladies to be seen without dates on Valentine's Day but I disagree. Besides I could really care less about what others think. At this point in my life, I am all about simply enjoying the moment.

We had dinner at the Coral restaurant at the Saipan Grand Hotel. Dinner was buffet style. There was so much food! At buffets I'm usually only able to eat one plate and I'm already full. They had an acoustic live band jamming' in the restaurant. They played sweet love melodies like "she will be loved" by Maroon 5 and "no ordinary love" by Sade. It kind of reminded me of a little live band lounge that my friend, Nikki, and I came across while wandering the streets of Manhattan when we were visiting last March. It was just a really relaxed and low key. I liked the ambience.

So I've been on my own for about a year now and this was the first time I was Valentine-less in ten years. Yes, ten years. But don't fret because strangely yesterday felt like just any other night for me. Enjoying Jidda's company and feasting on great food was definitely a plus. There were couples in love all over the place, holding hands, smooching . . . surprisingly I didn't feel like gagging. Instead it just reminded me how great it is- this crazy thing called love. God’s best is definitely worth waiting for. Maybe I’m making you sigh when I say this, but what can I say - I'm a true romantic at heart=)

After dinner we went to watch Angelo in the dating game. There were five guys and five girls as contestants. I had a couple of good laughs at some of the contestant's lame answers to certain questions. We also ran into John and Ej last night. Overall it was good entertainment. Here are some pics from last night. Hope you had a great Valentine's Day=)
